Keyless Entry
Along with unlocking and opening your car doors, some key fobs can also be used to start the engine. This can be useful if you need to leave the vehicle on hot days or if you're carrying heavy items in the boot that make it difficult for you to open the door manually. To open the car using your key fob, press the unlock button several times in rapid sequence. The door locks will close and the red light will begin to flash. If this does not occur, your key fob battery may be dead and needs to be replaced. Alternately, RF interference from nearby buildings may cause interference to your system.
Some key fobs also have an actual key that can be used to unlock your car (often for the driver's side door, but occasionally the boot as well). They can typically be opened by flipping up the flap on the fob, or pressing a button on the case. The key can then slide out of an opening in the case to access the lock.
Water can damage key fobs particularly when the chips are exposed to soapy or salty water. In some instances chips that are damaged can cause key fobs to stop working. If this occurs the key fob will need to be replaced, usually by the dealer. However, locksmiths may offer replacement keys faster than dealers and at a much lower cost.
Remote Start
You can start your car without needing to carry your keys in your car. This is especially useful when you are in a hot climate and want to cool your car down while you run some errands. But there are a few things you should know before using this feature.
Some key fobs include an engine start button you can press to start your car remotely (for example, Ford has a circular an arrow which is moving clockwise around its key fob). Mazdas, for instance require you to first lock the key and then press the Start button.
If you're unable to start your car, you might have a dead or weak battery inside the key fob. This is due to the fact that the batteries of the key fob aren't able to send an energizing signal to the car's system.
If this is the scenario, you'll have to replace the batteries on your key fob, or try changing the program. The procedure for this differs from car to car, but you can generally follow the directions in the owner's manual. Our mobile technicians are able to help with this process - we've got the specialist equipment to cut and program replacement Peugeot keys at the workplace, at home or if you're at the side of the road.
Door Locks
The Peugeot 3008 remote system allows you to lock or unlock your car by pressing the button on your key fob. Unlike the traditional key that has a physical key hole, this key fob stores a hidden electronic copy of the car key inside.
For this, it relies on a unique radio signal which is only sent out when the key is within a specific range of the vehicle. A solenoid inside the door lock converts the electronic command into mechanical once the signal is detected. This turns a rod to control the car door locks, just like keys on a real key would.
If a Peugeot key fob isn't locking or unlocking the car, there are many possible causes. The most frequent cause is the battery of the coin is dead, which can be replaced within minutes. Other reasons include worn-out buttons, signal interference, or water damage or a damaged chip.
The key fob on modern cars is no exception. Modern cars require extremely high level precision in order to operate. The key fob could be programmed incorrectly, or it may be faulty in hardware that hinders the vehicle from responding to the signal generated by the key. A certified locksmith can reprogram the key fob, and ensure that it is compatible with your vehicle.
Immobiliser

Peugeot was one of the first manufacturers to install an immobiliser on the key. The immobiliser chip stops the car from starting if it detects an error in the signal sent from the key to the car. This is a great feature when they are new, but over time the chips get worn out and cause issues. It usually starts with an error message that says 'anti-theft system active' on the dashboard, or a warning light flashing with the message 'immobiliser fault'.
Usually Peugeot dealerships are asked to create and program replacement keys. However, a professional locksmith is equipped with dealer-standard tools in their van, which means they are able to be with you and creating new Peugeot keys at the side of the road or at your home faster than dealers would be capable of.
Generally Peugeot keys start to have problems because the key blade wears out. The wear causes the mouth part of the key to stop entering the lock correctly and causing wear on the locks themselves. Sometimes, just swapping a new blade helps to solve the issue. It could also be beneficial to have the teeth on the key refurbished to enable them to perform more smoothly. Only a licensed auto locksmith can do this, but it could save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
